Istria weather in short

The warmest weeks are in July and August. The wettest months are October and November. July has the lowest monthly rainfall in the table below. If you want beach days, plan for the summer. If you prefer sightseeing without the heat, May, June and September are worth a look.

The monthly figures come from the Croatian meteorological service (DHMZ) and describe Rovinj on the west coast, averaged over 1971–2000. That is an older reference period. Use it to compare months with each other, not as a forecast for your dates. Other places on the coast and inland will differ in detail, so check a forecast a few days before you travel.

Swimming, sea and events

What to know about the water and the calendar.

Bathing water quality

In the ninth round of tests, from 8 to 16 September 2026, Istria's public health institute checked 222 measuring points. Of these, 219 were rated excellent (98.6%), two good and one satisfactory. One sample is a snapshot of one week, not a rating for the whole season, so beaches can still be closed for a short time.

Currents and swimming limits

At Cape Kamenjak the rules ask swimmers to stay within 100 m of the shore and warn of strong currents, especially between Kršine and Fenoliga. Wind and waves change the picture from day to day, so look at the sea before you go in.

Fire restrictions

In dry weather, open fires can be banned. A notice from June 2026 banned open fires, including grilling, at Kamenjak. Check the current rules before you plan a barbecue.

Tennis in July

The ATP tournament in Umag takes place in mid July, and the final was announced for Saturday 18 July 2026. If you plan to stay nearby, book early.
